Hi! I’m Samantha.
“Reclaim the peace and confidence that comes from taking back control over your internal landscape and remembering the truth that you get to control what you give your energy and attention to, thus shifting your perspective and ultimately your reality. Through presence and intention, you get to become the highest, most expansive expression of yourself.”
Maybe you’ve tried therapy in the past….
But it felt more like you were just learning how to cope with or manage the symptoms- like you were slapping a band aid on the problem rather than actually trying to understand, resolve, and ultimately heal the underlying issues creating the problem. Through our work together, you can expect to not only learn applicable skills to support you in managing and reducing the symptoms you are experiencing here and now, but we will also explore from a place of curiosity where these symptoms are coming from and what function they are trying to serve.
My Approach to therapy
Part of what makes therapy so effective and powerful is the container of safety and connection that's co-created between client and provider. I prioritize fostering and nurturing this connection to ensure you feel fully understood and validated in your experience, and safe enough to truly go deep. In a gentle, yet direct way, I will challenge you to explore what is below the surface directing your thoughts, emotions and actions, and how this impacts your experience of self and others and the way you navigate through life.
Using an eclectic blend of clinical skills, intuitive and energetic approaches (including Reiki), a blend of Eastern and Western philosophy and a perspective that comes from being a lifelong competitive athlete, I will tailor my approach to best fit your unique needs and goals.
A peek at my background
I grew up in Denver, Colorado, playing soccer just about every waking minute, and then went on to receive a bachelor's degree in psychology and minor in philosophy from the University of New Mexico where I played Division 1 soccer.
I earned a Master's degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University and then began my therapy practice mostly at non-profit mental health centers focusing both on outpatient mental health as well as prevention and counseling within the school system.
From there my family and I moved to Eastern Washington where I had a variety of clinical experiences ranging from working in a university setting with Division 1 athletes at Washington State University, practicing within a local birth and wellness clinic amongst midwives, nurses and acupuncturists, to jumping on the telehealth bandwagon for increased accessibility and convenience.
Just recently my family and I made another move to Omaha, Nebraska to be closer to family. My husband and I have three rambunctious, high-energy kids, a corgi and a kitty- so yes, our home is basically a zoo! I enjoy the sunshine, running, hiking, coffee, and reading- usually about energy work, spirituality, or something metaphysical!
A few of my self-care staples…
Warm lemon water with a pinch of salt every morning (followed by coffee of course)
Running, strength training, walking the dog, chasing my kids…some sort of movement- this is a MUST!
A short morning meditation (when I’m not getting attacked by my cat in the process! In that case it turns into mindfully playing with him…gotta roll with the situation)
Journaling or channeled writing at the beginning or end of the day. Either gratitude lists, or a common journal prompt I use… “What does my Highest Self/soul most want me to know right now?”
A little self-administered Reiki (I’m Master Level Usui Reiki trained)
A good podcast about either psychology, spirituality, metaphysics, philosophy, parenting or running
Reading! Books are a must. Even if it’s just a few pages at the beginning or end of the day. This practice signals to my brain it’s time to wind down and get ready for bed
Play! Whether it’s being a dork with my family, singing or dancing, it can be so beneficial to stop taking yourself so seriously and just have fun. It completely shifts your energy.
